ACTION ALERT - We have received word through the Archdiocese of an ACTION ALERT on Educational Funding, asking us to immediately contact our legislators in order to retain educational funded programs at past years’ level.  Some funding is being reduced and some eliminated completely.  In addition to your own representative, the United States Catholic Conference is asking that you contact Senator Dick Durbin in particular because he is on the Appropriations Committee and his support is essential. Senator Durbin can be reached at his fax number 202-228-0400, his phone number, 202-224-2152 or email through his web site at http://www,.durbin.senate.gov/contact.cfm.  Please call and urge Senators and Representative THIS WEEK to urge them to restore funding levels to those approved in past years.  These are NCLB Title II-D, Enhancing Education Through Technology, Title IV, Safe and Drug-Free Schools, and Title V-A, Innovative Programs.

Federal investment in education should not be cut in order to achieve a balanced budget or to eradicate the deficit. We here at St. Athanasius School have benefited over the years from these programs; In fact, our figures for this year total almost $6800.

CHESS NEWS - Our Junior High Chess Team was represented by Brent Terry-Penak at the National Junior High Chess Championship that took place in Kentucky April 7-9.  The event attracted 1140 players from 37 States and Brent won the 20th place trophy.
