After attending a Student Leadership Day at the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, St. Athanasius eighth grade students created an action plan to raise money for child refugees and victims of trauma.
The initial goal was to to raise enough funding for 10 safe spaces. But these students exceeded this target, raising more than $3,000 to fund a dozen safe spaces as part of this year’s Lenten Service Project. Today, students shared this with Gustavo Arguin, the Catholic Relief Service Representative at the Archdiocese of Chicago (back row, third from left).
The Illinois Holocaust Museum also featured on Facebook eighth graders Kinsey McGuire, Meghan Macdonald and Katie Kirkland as they told the story behind the project's inspiration. If you like, watch the video here (scroll down to May 1).
