Reopening & Coronavirus COVID-19 Information

St. Athanasius Families:

Students in grades 5-8 were mailed progress reports this week. You should have received these. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. First trimester will end on Thursday, November 12th. If you are planning to change your remote or in person learning option selection for the second trimester, that begins on Monday, November 16th. Next Friday I will send information on how to make your selection for trimester two if you are wishing to change from remote to in person or in person to remote.

Thank you so much to families for your responsiveness with returning required health and immunization records. This will allow us to file our information with the Illinois State Board of Ed on time and in its entirety, which is required of our school.

Have you gotten your flu vaccination? If you haven’t, please put this on your to do list. We want to keep our students and families healthy.

If at any time your family finds yourself quarantined or in need of assistance in any way, the St. A’s Friends is an outreach ministry to support members of our parish and school who are in need due to illness, death of a loved one, or family stress (new baby, moving, separation, etc.). During the pandemic, the St. A’s Friends are here to provide confidential support to anyone who needs to social distance or quarantine, or if you or a family member have been diagnosed with the coronavirus. The St. A’s Friends can be reached via email at or by contacting the Parish Office at (847) 328-1430.

We continue to receive weekly updates from the Archdiocese, and Principal McClay attends weekly principal update meetings, to make sure we have the most current information. Right now we are addressing cold weather guidance, including best practices for arrival and maintaining classroom air quality in cold weather. Additionally, there is a task force looking specifically at the holiday season, Thanksgiving to New Years, as this presents the possibility for a rise in infection rates with the increased probability of family gatherings, possible travel on the part of community members, students returning to homes from college, more indoor activity, etc. Guidance from the Archdiocese is expected by the end of next week specifically around this topic.

Please refer to the most recent eRED for updated COVID procedures for our school. And, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Principal McClay.

Carol McClay, Principal
Father Hernan, Pastor
